The rating I gave it is really higher than I thought it deserved, but toward the end of the book it improved somewhat for the better. The characters were seemingly true to their time and the era they portrayed, but were so static and helter skelter that it was hard to keep straight who was good and who was bad. It was back and forth so much that it made it hard to follow. I had to quit and come back many times and almost gave it up several times. As I said previously it improved toward the end as the author finally decided to settle down and get around to the nuts and bolts of the premise. The typos and the incorrect use of words(such as ever for every) and many more such errors whether through bad editing or just bad writing I'm just not sure. If you have to pay for this book....don't.but if it's free and you have time to just read straight through, then go ahead, just know it will be a struggle to get to the good part without pulling your hair out in frustration.Product details

Train to Anywhere edition by David George Howard Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Good book, but typos kind of had you stymied sometimes. Poor guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time sort of book. You really felt sorry for Eddie because he just couldn't catch a break. Man those guys didn't mess around with ya and if they wanted to hurt you they did, even though you might be an innocent party they didn't care. Power was their game....
This book was a freebie, and I had little information about what to expect. It surprised me, in a most pleasant way. The story was not your predictable crime drama, by any means. While a few of the folks were caricatures, such as the mayor, the vast majority of them had most distinctive personalities which made for a fascinating story. Mr Howard shows tremendous promise.
This book drags along with a slow plot, and unimaginative writing. The characters are predictable, and the author has a habit of stating observations and conclusions that the reader should be allowed to make.
I tried to give it a full read but by halfway through I just can't do any more. Life is too short for reading books that make it feel like a chore.
This book was a good read. I tend to read a variety of books at once, and I really liked how the the author managed to make a very interesting book with an easy to follow plot. If I had to put the book down (which I didn't want to do), I never felt like I had to restart at the beginning just to remember what was happening. I don't know many authors that can pull it off as well as he did.
If I had one complaint it's only that the version seemed to have some odd spacing in a few locations, and a couple of misspelled words.
Eddie Comes of Age could be another title.
Poor Eddie has the worst luck. Trouble follows him like a shadow it seems. He is always in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is trying hard to live a normal life, working, going to night school. He witnessed a murder by a mob boss and everything changes. Lots of suspense and action ensues.
In the end he realizes he always had a choice. He needed to make better ones.
The book, "Train to Anywhere" is an intense, provoking, mobster type of drama played out in the 1920s about the time of the stock market crash and the resulting Great Depression. Eddie, the main character, is on the run for his life after he sees things he should not have.
The story plays out well, and is full of twists and turns along the way. As soon as I thought the character was certain to meet his doom, other elements would spring up and surprise me. The logic from beginning to end was well thought out, and the ending, though not climactic, was nonetheless satisfactory.
The tension and suspense continued to ratchet upwards during the story, although some events written felt out of place and perplexing.
The book needs a clean professional edit from the misspellings, run-ons, incorrect possessives, and other typos. These detracted from the story and need to be fixed.
I also understand that these dirty characters would certainly be ones who would do the cussing, but it seems to be there only for effect, or shock to the reader. It really didn't add to the story, but rather brought out the adult nature of the events. The profanity was inconsistent, sometimes showing up when, in other events of like-stress-situations, was nowhere to be found.
The violence was what you would expect in a mobster type of story, but it was not overdone, and presented in a fair manner. Several of the characters were colorful and three-dimensional, adding to the story's credibility.
For those who like action/murder/mobster types of books with fast action, this one comes recommended.
It's the late 20's - prohibition is in full swing - jobs are disappearing fast - stock market about to crash - an idealistic prosecutor in his first encounter with organized crime and city politics - an upcoming crime boss without honor or morals - an established crime boss with a code of honorable conduct - and a young man turning his life around after a shaky start.
Their lives, values, and self interest collide when the young man is present at the killing of a local clothes designer and later the clothes designer's girlfriend. Was the young man being framed or did he do it? Is it right to create the illusion of cleaning up crime by arresting and convicting people because of their past? Is a crime boss really a criminal just because he is supplying product demanded by the average citizen?
Each in their own way resolve their dilemma. Who lives? Who dies? Who lives to die later?
You'll have to read it to find out.
The rating I gave it is really higher than I thought it deserved, but toward the end of the book it improved somewhat for the better. The characters were seemingly true to their time and the era they portrayed, but were so static and helter skelter that it was hard to keep straight who was good and who was bad.
